How Does Plasma Fibroblast Work?

Plasma skin tightening (also known as fibroblast or fibrolift) is the latest trend to hit the beauty scene. Debuting in Australia in 2017 it has been quickly growing in popularity and variance.

Heres the low down on what it does, how it does it, and whether you should get it.

What Plasma Fibroblast Does:

The primary treatment method is effective in tightening targeted areas of skin. Wrinkles, fine lines, and bags can be reduced or removed completely. The process is also commonly used on the upper eyelid in place of blepharoplasty, but it can be applied to almost any area of skin. The effectiveness of the treatment depends on the skin type being treated. It is most effective when used on thinner crepe textured type skin. This technique is commonly referred to as the 5 point method or dot technique.

Plasma fibroblast is also capable of removing skin tags, treating scars and stretch marks, as well as spot removal. There is a second technique that is used for pore reduction and lighter skin tightening. This second technique is often referred to as the spray technique.

Fibroblast is used for the following applications:

  • eyelid lifting (blepharoplasty)
  • crows feet
  • forehead wrinkles
  • upper lip creases
  • nasolabial folds (the crease from the nostril to the corner of the mouth)
  • under eye bags
  • pore reduction
  • skin tag removal
  • spot removal
  • treatment of appearance of scars
  • excess stomach skin (after pregnancy or weight loss)
  • upper arm skin
  • tighten neck skin (jowl line)

How Plasma Fibroblast Works:

Fibroblast devices work with an applicator – not a needle. The applicator does not penetrate the skin at all. With the correct use the applicator should not touch the surface of the skin either. The device produces a plasmatic flash at the tip of the applicator. The flash jumps from the tip of the applicator to the skin where it reacts with the fibroblast cells of the skin.

That is where the name fibroblast comes from.

The plasma flash evaporates the moisture within these cells, which causes the area of skin around the flash to shrink.

When using the 5 point method the plasma flash can be used to target and reduce specific areas of treatment. Using the spray technique you can lift the skin in the correct direction for an all over lift and tighten.

Healing Process :

The treatment results in the formation of small dry spots that will take 5-7 days to heal and fall off. The area will appear slightly red for 2-3 weeks.

The healing process is slightly different for each client depending on the techniques used and the areas treated. The spray technique has a much shorter recovery time and does not appear as spots.

Directly after the treatment it is recommended to carefully clean the areas twice a day with an Octenisept  spray (fancy name for antiseptic). Gently dry the area and apply the provided aftercare cream. If no cream has been provided to you we recommend that you use colloidal silver as an alternative.

Ongoing instructions are to keep out of the sun as much as possible and apply an SPF to protect the healing skin and prevent hyperpigmentation for up to 3 months. Do not scratch the area as this can damage the skin underneath. Swimming and saunas should only be visited after the initial scabbing process has healed and fallen off naturally.

What to Expect:

Your technician will consult with you about the areas you would like treated and the result you would like to achieve. It may take more than one treatment depending on the work to be done.

She will go through the consent forms with you and discuss any conditions that may effect your treatment.

After the consultation, numbing cream is applied to the areas that are to be treated to minimise pain. The treatment itself will feel like hot pinpoints. You will most likely feel some discomfort from the treatment even with numbing cream.

Is Fibroblast Right for me?

If you have some trouble areas you would like to treat but are not too keen on the idea of going under the knife for a surgical procedure then you should consider Fibroblast as a viable alternative.

It is much safer than a cosmetic surgery as there is no general anaesthetic involved and no actual skin penetration or stitches. You should consider the healing time and process involved before committing to Fibroblast. If you work outdoors or plan to spend time in the sun on an upcoming vacation it might not be right for you.

I have personally seen some amazing results for post pregnancy tummy skin as well as eyelid lifting and would highly recommend trying this treatment before visiting a surgeon as it s far less invasive and the treatment will not leave you with any surgical scars. My mum is just about to have fibroblast plasma as an alternative to blepharoplasty so if I recommend it to my own mum then surely it is a great treatment to consider!
